If you look at the far mat post, you can see where the floor starts to slant down towards the left of the picture. This is a hard object under the carpet and not an air pocket. The mat doesn't contour with this "hump" and just sits on top of it thus creating the "floating" effect. The mat just moves around instead of having the custom fit.
